On this glorious Tuesday, we’re announcing a brand new addition to our Substack publication: the Duffel Blog subscriber chat.
So what is this, really?
Let’s imagine that, hypothetically, you see a headline in the news: The Navy will now enlist recruits who score 10 on their ASVAB. That clearly should have been a Duffel Blog (#SHBDB) article, and our subscriber chat will be the perfect place to discuss it.
Or sometimes, we might post threads about inside events or swap funny stories with readers. And what if a fellow fan sends along a great military meme? How can we share such an important update with our community and cut through the social media noise? Substack chat is it.
This is a conversation space in the Substack app set up exclusively for our subscribers — like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion whenever you choose.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email). And turn on push notifications—so you don’t miss a chance to join the conversation as it happens.

Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
